Gunnedah greens in high demand

Last Saturday was the start of a big weekend of golf in Gunnedah with a single par event sponsored by Gunnedah Toyota that drew a field of 84 players.

Top honours: Nett winners at the Gunnedah Open Men’s Fourball last weekend, Matt Boag and Peter Kenny. The pair won a three-way countback for the top title.

Al Francis scored the day’sbestresult on+1.

State bound: Kay Clarke and Peter Spackman who won a trip to the mixed fourball state championship after winning the district final at Werris Creek.

Barry Atkins tookout A Grade with square from Wal Quarman on –1, whileB Grade winner Warren Stacey scored –1 in front of Warren Hinton on –2. In C Grade,Al Francis scored +1 to secure the title fromWal Carter,–2.

Jordan Randle had the nearest the pin on the 2nd Jacob andAnderson hole, Steve Merlehan was nearest on the 7th. The12th hole went to John Stanley andthe 16th Jacob andAnderson Gunnedah hole Nev Cruickshank.Sean O’Dell hadbest second shot to the pin on the 18thwhileIan Jordan scored an eagle 3 on the 4th hole.

Sunday’s competition in Gunnedah featured98 playersin the Gunnedah Open Men’s Fourball for the Gunnedah Goblet also sponsored by Gunnedah Toyota.

Peter Kenny andMatt Boag were firstin the nett competition on a three-way countback with the score of +9.Runners-up were Dave Laurie andSteve Berry on +9 and thirdplace went to Robert Bradley andCameron Davies also +9.

In the competition for the gross trophies, Luke Streater andPeter Henderson took out first place with the score of +3 from Warren Stacey andCornelius Vlok.

The best front-nine wentto Paul Jarratt andMick Osmond +6.Runners-up were Josh Martin andBrett Thomas on +5.

The back nine went to Kurt Bartlett andWade Bartlett +4,countback from John Stanley andBruce Higham +4.

Long drives claims went toLuke Streater (A Grade), Bob Jones (B Grade) andKobe Harris (C Grade).

Kay Clarke andPeter Spackman travelled to Werris Creek to take out first place with +8 in the district final of the Keno Mixed fourball Championships. The pairhave now won a trip to Bonville Course for the state final later in the year.

In mid-week golf results, four-ball winners wereLuke Ryan andKobe Harris on 50 points, second went toPeter Wicks andJohn Winterton on 49 points followed byBruce andChris Higham third on 47 points.Singles winners wereLuke Ryan in first on28 points, second was Dave Laurie (25)on c/b from third Peter Wicks (25).

This Saturday’s eventwill be a single stableford sponsored by the Gunnedah Veteran golfers andround 4 of the Namoi Valley Independent Stableford Shootout.
