RIVERINA Nationals’ MP Michael McCormack has said he is honoured by his appointment as Minister for Small Business in the re-elected Coalition government.

Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has been announced as the Minister for Small Business.

“Having owned and operated my own small business in Wagga Wagga for more than eight years, I understand firsthand the vital role small business plays in many local communities,” Mr McCormack said.

“Since coming to Parliament, I have seen how the Coalition’s small business policies, including the instant asset write-offs and a lowering in the company tax rate, have seen an increase in confidence, investment and jobs in the Riverina electorate’s small businesses.

“With thefocus on ensuring Australia’s small businesses have a champion and voice in the Ministry, I follow in the steps of two outstanding Small Business Ministers in Bruce Billson and Kelly O’Dwyer.

“I am very excited to take on this role.

“Icannot wait to meet with as many small businesses as I can, right across Australia, to hear of their successes and work with them in growing the sector into the future.”

Mr McCormack said he is also delighted to serve as the first Small Business Minister who is a member of The Nationals.

“The Nationals are a proud champion of small businesses,” Mr McCormack added.

“From the biggest regional cities to the smallest country towns and villages we are there supporting small business.

“I am excited to bring this passion and enthusiasm to the role.

“Right around Australia, small businesses are generating jobs and opportunities for millions of Australians every day.

“I really cannot wait to get to work on their behalf,” he said.

Mr McCormack also said he will remain focused on his role as the Member for Riverina.

He said he will continue being the voice for the Riverina and Central West in Federal Parliament.

“Our electorate has thousands of wonderful small businesses with an exciting story to tell and an important insight into my role.

“I look forward to working with the region’s small businesses.

“While doing that I will be continuing my most important task – being the region’s voice in Federal Parliament.”

Mr McCormack was sworn in as the new Minister for Small Business on Wednesday and is undertaking his third term as the Member for Riverina.
