The Port Lincoln Racing Club is planning for future expansion after buying six hectares south of the racecourse.THE Port Lincoln Racing Club is planning ahead for a future expansion after buying about six hectares of land immediately south of the Ravendale Racecourse.
Club president Greg Fitzgerald said the club purchased the land in partnership with Thoroughbred Racing South Australia with a view to the future.
Over the long term, the landwill provide the club with the opportunity to expand itshorse racing facilities including shedding, workshops, stabling, racing surfaces, distancestarting points and horse preparation facilities.
Mr Fitzgerald said planning was still in the early stages but the land could be used to relocate facilities or buildings, establish different starting points on an expanded racetrack, and allow the club to establish even more up to date facilities.
“It’s not going to happen overnight but all that potential now exists,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
“It’s certainly an exciting time for the club because it’s given us the potential to build new facilities and expand areas of the racetrack itself.”
He said the piece of land had been surveyed and the next step was to clear it.
A sub-committee has been formed to look specifically at the club’s futureplanning and development comprising members with expertise in real estate, insurance, horse training, development, earthworks, environmental management, regional development and local government.
“It’s critical from our perspective that we engage with people with that sort of expertise,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
