Snappers get portrait tips

PORTRAITUREwas the subject of apractical session at the June meeting of the Port Lincoln Camera Club.

After the regular club business, clubmembers had a quick coffee then cleared the floor and set up the lights and backdrops.

Local photographer and club member Fran Solly spent the first part of the practical session explaining various types of lighting, the importance of interacting with your models to keep the mood light and relaxed, and suggested camera settings to use.

Members were fortunate enough to have fourmodelswhowere extremely obliging and sat, turned, stood, twisted, leanedand twirled while looking happy, wistful, melancholy, nonplussed and occasionally a little confused -the result of a dozen or so photographers all trying to create the perfect model poseat the same time.

It was a thoroughly good meeting with everyone agreeing it was a very productive evening.

The results of last month’s competition results were also revealed.

The set subject was weather.

Michael Bolenski scooped the pool winning both the judge’s and the popular vote with his stunning Wreck Beach Storm.

Gordon Fowler’sGathering Stormand Wet Weekendwere equal third in the popular vote with Gathering Stormalso awarded second place by the judge.

Sunset Rainby Fran Solly was the judge’s choice for third and the popular vote for second was Karen Miels with her photograph, Autumn Fog.

The Michael Bolenski show continued in the open section with Charlietaking the top spot in the popular vote.

Gordon Fowler was second with Gum Nutsand Ruth Evans was third with A Little Optimistic.

The judge gave first and third to Fran Solly with Anchorand Dunesrespectively and second to Judy Glendenning for Curves.

Merits were also awarded to Ruins at Sunriseby Ruth Evans and Splash Downby Karen Miels.

Everyone is welcome at our meetings which are held at the Senior Citizens Hall in Hallett Place.

The club’snext meeting is at 7pm on Monday,July 25.
